Update to my interview with Katty DeLux several years ago….
How did you get your model name? My middle name is Joan and of course I love the style of Christina Hendricks’ character in Mad Men! Manhattan because, I feel it evokes a fun big city vibe, and I would love to spend some time in New York City! I am also a geek and enjoy the Watchmen graphic novel and Dr. Manhattan fan.
Favorite photographer to work with: Vixen Pin-Up Photography It is my philosophy that if you are working on a modeling portfolio, or just doing this for yourself that you make the investment to work with a quality photographer. Vixen is a full service photography studio Nikki and Candy are experts in many eras of styling, makeup, and hair! So what are you waiting for? Tell them Joan sent you!
Do you have any tattoos or body modifications? I do not have any tattoos or permanent body modifications. I have had a belly button ring for about a decade and feel naked without it, but I typically do not wear it for shoots as it is not consistent with the look I am trying to achieve. That being said I adore ladies and gents that have tattoos and body mods and I think it is wonderful that pin-up allows us to express ourselves in our own unique ways!
How long have you been modeling? I have been modeling since I was a little girl, I used to be really into the pageant scene and contemporary fashion modeling. That was until I did my first pin-up session in 2011 and I was completely hooked!
Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? Inspirations include Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable & Veronica Lake. Modern pin-up is so amazing because it embraces so many styles and all body types, I am inspired by everyone in the community, there is so much creativity and personality in modern pinup, I am blown away!. I have battled my whole life with body image issues and I just love seeing pinups of all walks of life flaunting what god gave ’em!
What are some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers? I am a Pinup Girl Clothing fan girl through and through!
If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? I am totally old school, and would love to work with a pin-up artist. Gil Elvgren if I could time travel, but since that still isn’t possible, Olivia De Berardinis would be pretty amazing to work with!
What is your favorite color and why? Pink, all shades. I love wearing pink and surrounding myself with it, it just makes me feel happy and reminds me of flowers and springtime!
If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? Definitely my grandmother. She passed away several years ago, but she lived through the depression and all the “good old days”…it is always amazing to talk to someone who has been alive for almost a century. There are just so many things that we can learn from those who came before us!
